Analysis of the crucifixion video: the shadows are the light
On April 24 2015 in Ukraine, allegedly a man was crucified by what seems to be militairy men. Since we do not know the origin of the video, we can not report on its meaning yet. So far we do have some questions about the authenticity.
The video is 4.36 minute long and has been taped in one take (one camera). So the whole event took just five minutes. They must have been practicing, because else it is not that easy to do all that. I have studied the shadows in different settings.
Sentence explanation (0:01s – 0:13s)
The video starts with five militairy men standing around the “target” on the ground. Behind the target’s face is a light, so it is difficult to recognize him. The main light comes from the left corner in front. This is strong artificial light. The shadows of the 6 men in the picture are consistent, pointing away from the left/front corner.
At least two men of the “film crew” are standing out of sight from the camera (red circle). The camera man is standing in front of the group. At 0:21s we see the camera man and a second person walking towards the group of militairy men (only their shadows, right on screen).
To the right in the back we already see the cross on the ground. We can not see stars in the sky, thought it is dark. The men are standing on grass and it covers their shoes. The grass seems real, yet the wind has no grip on it (it is wind still).
Walking towards the cross (0:14s – 0:24s)
They walk away from the camera towards the cross on the ground. We now see how the men walk on grass and the grass covers their shoes. The grass they walk on is real. I am not convinced though, the grass to the left of the stick is real. In fact, I see no proof anything behind the red line is real.
The only thing odd so far, is how the stick on the left seems to have no function, nor does it have a shadow. If there would be a shadow, it would be on the red line or below. Still, this is not proof, since the stick’s shadow might be hidden in the curved grass ground (to the left of the red line). If the video is fake, the white stick covers-up a corner in the “background wall”.
Between 0:13s and 0:16s we see first clear signs it is a fake video. Please focus on the man on the right and his shadow. Below four screen shots of him at 13s, 14s, 15s and 16s. In the first two pictures his shadow is in line with the shadow caused by the main light (left) on the ground. We are not sure if his head is a shadow on the ground, but his body is.
In the next 3 pictures (15s-16s) the shadow of his upperbody no longer is on the ground, but is displayed vertical. His shadow suggests there is no longer grass land behind the torch (right), but rather a fake background wall (like in the movies).
At 0:21s in the video this is undeniable obvious. The same man on the right is standing close to a wall, as the shadow of his legs are vertical. The main light is still left from the camera. The camera man is focussing in while moving to the left, as the man on the right walks two steps in the direction of the end of the cross. We see a vertical shadow moving. It can only mean the background is vertical and thus fake. At 0:20s (photo below right) we see the top of the white cross in the background with no shadow on the right side of the cross. The next photo (0:21s), there is a vertical shadow there belonging to the man standing most right. From 0:20s-0:24s we see his shadow moving on the wall.
The man to be executed is facing the camera the whole time, e.g. we do not see his back. From 0:19s onwards, the camera man moves towards the group to continue filming more nearby. We can soon see the camera man’s shadow, with a second shadow next to him.
Attaching the man to the cross (0:25s – 2:40s)
Behind the torch in the back (right side, at 0:25s), we see how the shape of the horizon from right to left is first almost flat, then makes a 45 degree angle upward, followed by an almost flat horizon to the left of that, followed by a slow curve downward further left. Yet, when the men stand up a bit, some shadows emerge just above the horizon!
At 0:29s in the video, we see on the right side, a man-shaped shadow of the camera man. The main light still comes from the left (front). We see the camera man casting a shadow over the man standing right and over the background “wall”. This is likely a film studio.
Raising the cross from the ground upwards (2:41s – 3:41s)
This would not be that odd in an “open field”, yet both torches are blowing smoke consistenly in a different direction. The left torch to the left. The right torch to the right. It just makes me wonder: how?
Setting fire to the cross (3:42s – 4:36s)
The torches start to cause smoke, just when they try and set the cross on fire. We will discuss this part in one of our next articles. No strange shadows around the fire.
Based on the above analysis, I am sure the video is taped against a fake background.
